As I enter into retirement, I have enough time to undertake one of the most important projects of my life. It is time to examine my beliefs closely and carefully. It is time to make sure they have a firm foundation. It will be quite embarassing (or worse) if I have it all wrong when I enter into my next life.
Some might say we shouldn’t question our beliefs, but that is not what the Bible says. II Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” I John 4:1 says, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” God is not asking us to mindlessly accept whatever doctrine comes along. So I will now do as I’m told. I will put my beliefs to the test.
Some might say I am experiencing a crisis of faith. That is not what is happening here. I am merely asking questions. My faith is intact. By His grace, God saved me from sin through the shed blood of His son, Jesus of Nazareth. There is no doubt of that.
Could my investigations lead to a crisis of faith? Yes, absolutely. However, if God is truly guiding my footsteps, I need not fear such a test. I will trust and obey because there’s no better way. Any crisis of faith is merely an opportunity to better understand the work of God in my life and in this universe.
I praise God for bringing me to this point in my life.
